Many IPTV channels block web player requests due to browser security policies (CORS). Turning on a proxy routes stream files through a server that allows web player traffic.
VLC Player is a native app: it ignores browser security policies (CORS) and doesn't send browser headers. Browsers enforce security: they block requests unless the stream server allows web player traffic (CORS), and stream servers often block requests containing browser User-Agents, Origin, or Referer headers. Public CORS proxies often block infinite live video streams because they are too large.

This allows direct connections without using slow public proxies which block infinite live video streams.
Some stream servers block browser players. Install Header Editor, and create a rule to remove Origin and Referer headers, and set the User-Agent to VLC/3.0.18 for your IPTV stream URLs.
Reset all stream proxy and player settings to their defaults.
